May I Help?

I was on Chicago’s Navy PIer, sittting alone at a cafe table when it happened. I had come to Chicago with my sister and brother-in-law for my aunt’s memorial service. The service was to take place the next morning. We arrived early enough to take in a sunset boat cruise on Lake Michigan. It was a beautiul evening for such. The heavens were telling the glory of God.

After we returned from the cruise my sister and brother-in-law went iooking in the multiple tourist shops for a particular cap a famil;y member had requested. I did not have the energy for such an expedition and waited for them at outdoor cafe table that had an empty chair. Before they left on their hat hunt they brought me a 7Up to drink.t

This drink should have come with a warning label allerting one to the fact “Some Assemply Required.” It came unassembled. The straw was not onserted into the drink. TYhe straw had to be inserted through the blastic lid and into the drink for cthe drink to work. The lighting was not good. I started the==assembly by exploring the center of the kid with ther stqaw. I INSERTING THE STAWKKKKKK SLITS MQKD FOR poledl with the straw thinking I WOULD FOND THE

Then it happened. The words “Can I help you?” gently landed on me. I looked up. A woman, looking as if maybe an angel, stood there gifting a sweet concerned smile my way. I did not hesitate to think. I was unable to do the assemply needed to reach the drink I so desperately needed, wante. The answer was there, but I had to give it all to her. I said ,’Yes.”

She reached down, took my drink and the straw and in one fell swoop broke the lid that separated me fro the drink. w slid effortlessly through the lid and into the drink.

She handed the drink to me. She said nothing. She then simply turned and walked away. She sought no praise, no honor, no recognition. She saw a need and took it upon herself to meet it.

I was so taken aback by the amazing act done to me by one who was a complete stranger to me that I reak=lized later I didnt even get her name.

I wouldn’t be surprised jf it was "Diane”.
